NEIL HERALD Obituary

NEIL PATRICK HERALD, 56, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, in Chicago, Ill., where he made his home for the last 34 years. Neil graduated from Bishop Dwenger High School in the Class of 1985. He was a proud member of the 1983 State Football Championship team. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1989. For the past five years, Neil served as Chief Executive Officer for the Prestwick Group and was a business partner with his brother, Michael. Prior to joining the Prestwick Group, he served for over 30 years as a Structured Settlement Broker / Consultant with Alliant / Mesirow. Neil was a loyal son, a true friend and anchor to his siblings. Neil loved spending time with his friends and family, especially with his beloved nieces and nephews. He loved all things Chicago, especially the 'regulars' at Vaughan's Irish Pub. He leaves behind a true legacy of generosity like no other. Neil is survived by his mother, Kathleen Herald; and siblings, Michael (Michele) Herald, Bridget (Brock) Merck, Kara (Chuck) Pastor, Anne (Mick) Steele, and Scott (Holly) Herald. He was a loving uncle to Tom, Kathryn, Caroline, Howie, Molly, Michael, Nora, Patrick, Maria, Maggie, Teddy, Mary Rose, Grace, Francesca, and Philomena. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael E. Herald. Mass of Christian Burial is noon Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road, with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School. Arrangements by Divine Mercy Funeral Home. I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Neil´s passing. I am a friend of Patrick and Nora, and Neil was so kind to host my friends and I for a weekend when we went to lollapalooza last summer. He was one of the kindest souls I had ever met, he loved talking to us and getting to know us, and made sure we were safe the whole weekend. He went with us to drop us off at the festival both days, and drove through all the traffic to pick us up at night while all the other people had to take the train. He took us out to breakfast and always had food for us. He really spoiled us. I´m so honored I had the chance to know him, I told so many friends and family about him. He was truly a shining light. I will miss him. I hope to carry on his legacy by showing his kindness and hospitality to others. I will be praying for his soul and for the entire family.

I always have liked and admired every member of the Herald family. I didn't know Neil well because he was older than our children, but it's a tragedy to lose someone so young. I'm very sorry for the entire family, and I will include him in my prayers asking for those who have passed to be in heaven.
