Jane Holland Obituary

Jane Baker Holland passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, surrounded by love, at the VNA Hospice of Indian River County in Vero Beach, Fla. Jane lived a wonderful 103 years of life. Her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dear friends will miss her dazzling smile, her wisdom, her compassion, and her all-enveloping love. Her amazing caregiver and dear friend, Linda Penny, brought much joy into her life in her later years.
Jane was born Sept. 11, 1919, in Greenville, Pa., the daughter of Bertha Davis Baker and William Artemus Baker. She was a graduate of Penn High School and Thiel College, both in Greenville. She married John William ("Bill") Holland in 1947. He was the love of her life. Together, they built a wonderful life in Slippery Rock. In their later years, they spent part of each year in Grove City, and part in Clearwater, Fla. After Bill's death, Jane lived full time in Vero Beach.
She loved to read - especially English literature - and to teach. As a young woman, she taught English at Grove City High School. After raising her four children, she returned to the classroom, first at Slippery Rock State College and then at Moniteau High School. She expected a lot of her children and her students, which was much to their advantage in life.
She was a leader in the community, serving as president of the Slippery Rock Women's Club and as an elder in her beloved Highland United Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, where she taught Sunday school.
Jane enjoyed being with people and had an active social life. She and Bill played bridge nearly every week. They square-danced, golfed and often entertained their wide circle of friends. She was fun - a great companion with a rollicking sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughters, Mimi Holland Limbach (Fred), Ann Holland Baglier (Dennis), and Ellen Holland Walker; her beloved grandchildren, Jane Walker Blake (Tommy), W. Camp Walker (Michelle) and Holland Walker Josephs (Steven); her adored great-grandchildren, Hollis, Henry and Webster Blake and William and Davis Walker; her cherished nephews, Bill Baker (Cheri), John Baker (Karen); and many great nieces and nephews.
Jane was predeceased by her husband; their son, Michael Andrew Holland; their son-in-law, H. Webster Walker; her parents; her brothers, William A. Baker and Andrew Davis Baker; and her sisters-in-law, Betsy Baker and Eileen Baker.
HOLLAND - A celebration of life for Jane Baker Holland who died Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, will be held at Highland United Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Jane's family would welcome donations in her honor to the Highland United Presbyterian Church, 310 Franklin St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057; the Humane Society of Butler County at butlercountyhs.org; and the VNA & Hospice Foundation at vnatc.org/waystogive or 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A more gracious and lovely lady never walked the earth. It is impossible to believe that she has been gone for a full year now. I am also missing her family, who were ever present on a revolving basis since they lived so far afield. Sending blessings and love to all who loved and miss her today.

Condolences to the Holland family. Mrs. Holland brought life to her English classes at Moniteau, which I was fortunate to be a part of. God Bless.

To the family, I had Mrs. Holland for 11th and 12th grade English at Moniteau HS. I liked her classes. She seemed to enjoy her work, was dedicated to her profession and perhaps best of all had the gift of encouragement-something I'll always appreciate. My sympathy, Sharon Dillaman

Dear Mimi, Ann and Ellen,
I always proclaimed that when I "grew up,"
I wanted to be JANE HOLLAND. She was a cherished
friend, with whom I shared bridge games, luncheons.. and many cards and letters. Her warmth and loving ways will be forever missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
A Slippery Rock friend, Beverly Barnett

Most of us in Vero Beach referred this wonderful woman as Grandma Jane. When you were in her presence you felt at home and loved. We will all miss her smile that encouraged her family and all of the students placed in her care.
My prayers go out to all Jane's family and friends.

Grandma Jane was an original in every way. She always made you feel special. Whenever I see a box of Russel Stover candies I think of her and the many she gifted me as hostess gifts over the years. She was unique and had a heart that encompassed the whole word. I know you will all miss her greatly. Hugs.

Deepest sympathy. Mrs. Holland was still teaching when I attended Moniteau Jr./Sr. High School. She always set a great example for others to follow, with style and perfection. I often received telephone calls on Sunday's from her, as she tried to reach Martin's and their # was similar to mine in Slippery Rock. It was always nice to hear her voice. It took some research but I figured out who she meant to call so I called Martin's to say - Jane called! It was a pleasure to have known her.

Jane Holland was my English teacher in high school and she demanded a lot in her classroom, but every student came out better because of that. She was a funny, beautiful woman. Rest In Peace dear lady.
