David Pickett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 29 to Apr. 30, 2005.

SUNBURY - The Rev. David H. Pickett, 61, of 339 Walnut St., went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:33 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been hospitalized for eight days.

He was born Oct. 2, 1943, in Watertown, N.Y., a son of the late Roy and Mildred (Look) Pickett. On Nov. 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to the former Virginia C. Henning, who survives. His passing breaks a strong marital union of more than 41 years.

The Rev. Pickett graduated in 1961 from Watertown High School and later from United Wesleyan College, Allentown.

He was ordained in 1986 with the Penn-Jersey District of the Wesleyan Church.

His first charge was Pine Grove Wesleyan Church, where he served for four years; he then served at Paulsboro Wesleyan Church, Paulsboro, N.J., for eight years; and from 1989 until the present, Pastor Pickett served Trinity Wesleyan Church, Walnut Street, Sunbury.

The Rev. Pickett was the coordinator of the chaplaincy program at Sunbury Community Hospital for many years. He was also involved in sales for Orchard Hills Cemetery and Memorial Park, Shamokin Dam, and had been employed by Zartman Construction, Northumberland, as a cement finisher from 2003-04.

The Rev. Pickett was a member of the Sunbury Ministerium.

He served the Lord with gladness as he did with his church and its families. He was a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather who truly enjoyed socializing with his many friends and associates. The Rev. Pickett had a sincere and ready smile and an outgoing personality.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife, Virginia, are two sons and one daughter-in-law, David E. Pickett of Philadelphia and Jonathan D. and Tracy L. Pickett, at home; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah R. and Kevin Kintzel of Pine Grove; one daughter-in-law, Carol Pickett of Trevorton; seven grandchildren, Skylar Pickett, Zachary Lesher, Joshua and Kerrie Pickett and Eric, Darryl and Latitia Kintzel; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Darlene Pickett of Traverse City, Mich., and the Rev. Ronald and Betty Lou Pickett of Watertown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beulah and Clyde Bellville of Lacona, N.Y., and Beryle and Lewis Carter of Syracuse, N.Y.; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by on son, Nathan Howard Pickett, on Dec. 27, 2001, and by one sister, Sally Pickett, in infancy.

Family, friends and others will gather for the viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Catawissa Avenue, Sunbury. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church by the Rev. Dr. Harry F. Wood, superintendent of the Penn-Jersey District, assisted by the Rev. Timothy J. Moore, senior pastor of Pine Grove Wesleyan Church.

Entombment will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed in loving memory of Rev. Pickett to Trinity Wesleyan Church, in care of Sharon Fogle, treasurer, 7 Hillside Drive, Selinsgrove, PA 17870.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., Mount Pleasant Mills.

Virginia & Family,

Words could never express my feelings, Such a loss, an unforgetable man of God. Pastor has helped and prayed for so many, what a legacy he has left behind. I always said if there was anyone who seemed more like God it was Pastor, the unselfish love and kindness he showed to everyone was undescribable.

He will be deeply missed by all and will always remain in my heart.

What a truely remarkable man God has given me the pleaure of knowing.

Virginia I am so sorry I could not be there. I just had surgery and I knew I could not fly, but I am so much feeling for you and the family, I am just sending along a big Hug and MY Love to you. Chrissy

Our deepest sympathies are with you. I met Pastor David at the Sunbury Hospital when I began working there several years ago. I would always get a big smile on my face when I saw him enter the SNCU, for he always had such an air of peace, joy and goodwill that eminated from his soul. I missed him very much when he stopped coming for some time due to his own personal tragedy, and it was only recently that I saw him again. This world has certainly lost a precious friend. The last time I saw Pastor Dave, he was leaving our unit. He stopped to give me a big hug, said "It is so good to see you, and God Bless You!" I told him "You have made my day! God Bless You too!" I can still see his beautiful smile. I have met many people over the last several years while working at SCH, and Pastor Dave is truly one of the most precious and memorable. Thank You, God, for sharing him with us and showing us through him how truly wonderful You are.

God Bless You all as you go through this time of grief. Our hearts are so sad for you loss.

To Virginia & family: We have never been so privileged as to have Pastor Dave Pickett as a loving neighbor and friend. We will miss him immensely coming out of the house, waving, and bidding us the time of day. My mother loved him when he would visit, talk, and pray with her while in the Skilled Nursing Unit at the Sunbury Hospital. Absolutely no one will fill Pastor Dave's shoes. He was a hard worker, kind, family loving and caring person. He will definitely make Heaven a better Place. God's Speed Paul & Harriet Daise

To Virginia and the Family--Thanks for sharing your husband and father with us in ministry. Although I have not had the privilege to work closely with Pastor Dave, I have learned to love his smile and warm embrace at district functions--annual conference and ministers' & spouses' retreats. I have tried to imagine what those events will be like without him. He brought a special warmth to those times, if only by his smile.

I'm sure all to whom he has ministered will miss his touch and thoughtful acts of kindness and service.

Please know that we treasure the memories of his friendship, and across the district your family will continue to be held in our hearts and prayers.

With sincere sympathy and affection,

Carl & Eva Butler

We first met Rev. Pickett when we started going to church camp at Willowlake Wesleyan Church Camp when it first opened and we think he was a wonderful blessing to all. We will miss seeing him walking and talking with the campers, as he treated each person so kindly.

I was shocked to hear that Rev. Pickett was in the hospital just 5 days after he performed a lovingly heart felt memorial service for my father, Harold 'Had' Carr. I wish I could have gotten to know Rev. Pickett better, before my father was hospitalized. He was truely one of Gods most dedicated servants, always available with a warm smile and a loving, friendly hug for everyone. When my father got worse and eventually died on April 5, I know in my heart that if he had the capability to, Rev. Pickett would have personally taken the pain from the hearts of my mother, myself, my kids & Tina (my new sis) among others and he would have carried our pain himself. I have never met a more loving man on this earth (besides my father who also had an abundance of love and respect for Rev. Pickett). I still cry for my father everyday, but I know that while he was still here, he had many amazing and loving friends like Rev. Pickett who touched his life daily. I think Rev. Pickett could have passed as an older earthly version of or even a brother to Jesus, because for the short time I knew him, that's who he reminded me of with his consistant smile and open arms for everyone; even those who just met him could see and feel The Lord working through Rev. Pickett. I thank God for allowing me the heavenly opportunity to meet such a wonderful man, despite the circumstances. My mother, myself and my kids will miss Rev. Pickett, but we know that he and my father are up in Heaven taking good care of each other, and I bet Rev. Pickett is up there still praying for each and every one of us... He loved to pray. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family. He was a wonderful man who will be missed very much.

For anyone signing in or just visiting this guest book who also knew my father, Harold 'Had' Carr, his guest book is still open and will be until 5/2006, and we welcome you to visit and/or sign his guest book also. God Bless.

It saddened me greatly to see Davids

passing. I have been out of the area

for nearly a year and did not know of his illness. I have work in ministry with him in the Sunbury community for 6 years and I know what a good and Godly man he was. He will be missed but not forgotten. His influence for good and for God will be felt in Sunbury for years to come.

Pastor Dave was the type of guy to take care of someone else, before he took care of himself. It did not matter how small or big the problem was, he would always be there with you. Pastor Dave was there for my handicapped son when no one else was. He was a perfect influence for children and families. Vigina and Pastor Dave will be in my heart and my Children. Love Tammy, Bernie, Ernest, and Mandy Pennycoff.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Virginia and the family and also the church family at Wesley. Pastor Pickett was a wonderful man and Pastor to my whole family. Everytime we passed there was always a warm hug and smile to be had, with an I LOVE YOU when parting. He has been there for my family when my son was hit by the car and he sat at two hospitals with us all night, he baptized my great nephews, and served with compassion at my sisters funeral. Pastor Pickett will be missed in the hearts of many and in the hearts of the Everett family. God Bless you and your family Virginia, and my the Lord grant you peace, your husband will be missed by many. So long Pastor Pickett we will all see you again one day when we join you in our heavenly home. Love Laura and family-Scott, Chris, Brittany and their families.
