"Harry" Miller

Harold Curtis "Harry" Miller, age 85, passed away January 1, 2007. He was born December 19, 1921 in Newton, IA to William Basil and Pearl (Gesford) Miller.
Harry was a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Air Force, and a trained B-17 pilot, during WWII. He earned a B.A. from the U. of Wisconsin, in Mechanical Engineering, in 1948. His first engineering position was with Lago Oil & Transport Company Ltd. in Aruba, where he met and married his wife in 1949. Their first child was born in Aruba. In 1952, they returned to the states where he worked for Shell Oil in Montana, New Mexico and Denver. Harry started working at American Gilsonite in Fruita in 1962 as a refinery engineer until 1973. He then went to work at Chevron-San Francisco as a refinery maintenance engineer in several locations including Perth Amboy, NJ., New Orleans, LA., El Paso, TX., Evanston, WY., El Centro, CA. and two assignments to Sao Paulo, Brazil and Aix en Provence, France. Upon retiring in 1985, he and his wife moved to Vancouver, Washington where he was active with North West Antique Aircraft Club and Grace and Glory Community Church.
Harry loved flying his Cessna 150, and enjoyed aviation history, travel, crossword puzzles, his Yorkshire terrier, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Alice, daughters, Christina Rosenberg of Grand Junction, CO, and Sarah Tillman and Amanda Miller, both of Vancouver, WA; older brother, W. Cliff Miller of Kent, WA; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his son, William Nicholas Miller, in 1980, in a single-engine plane crash in Grand Junction.
An informal remembrance gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the hangar of Steve Wood, 2864 Navigator Way, Hangar #D. (Southeast area of Walker Field)
