Uncle Harold had graduated from high school and came to stay with my mom and dad (Lorraine and Al Hillstrom) in San Antonio, TX. He worked at a grocery store but later in the summer he found out he missed Minnesota terribly. A group of his friends had a going away party for him at my parents house. Being about 8 years old, I was totally fascinated and kept sneaking peeks at his teenage party. Uncle Harold caught me instead of shooing me away or scolding me, he invited me to join the party and games. I was thrilled. This is just one of many memories I have where Uncle Harold showed his consideration and kindness for others. We will miss him, but I know that he smiling and looking over Aunt Jean, Mike and Chris. Love to you all.

ITN HAS BEEN AWHILE SINCE HAROLD PASSED OVER, IT WAS VERY FAST , SO I GUESS GOD WAS READY FOR HIM. HE WAS A GOOD MAN , AND A GOOD FATHER , AND A GOOD HUSBAND, AND A GOOD BROTHER-IN-LAW. HE IS MISSED AND ALWAYS WILL BE, BUT I KNOW HE IS IN A FAR BETTER PLACE ,AND AT PEACE.

My deepest sympathy to Jean, Michael, and Chris. Harold's passing was such a blow! The lives of all who were priviledged to know him were blessed by his caring, friendship, and great love of life! My memories are of a wonderful co-worker and great friend. Through Harold I was blessed to meet Jean and the boys. I will forever remember our wonderful giggles and great fun during our time spent with the Minneapolis Water Works' Bowling League seasons we all shared together. The fun parties after the seasons and all of our great giggles and many wonderful times. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. Love and Hugs to you all.

Dear friend, my memories of Harold will always be of a very quiet, introspective man who never said a mean thing about anyone. I even got him to smile a few times and he was always such a good listener. I am sure he will be missed by so many people because he made friends so easily. People were always happy to see you and Harold and when he was ill, it was hard to know just what to say, but he was a trooper. Now Harold is with us in spirit, [I'd like to think he is with Virgil on the other side]watching us knowing that he is no longer in pain and the first thing he'd tell us is that life goes on. We will take one day at a time until we meet with our loved ones again, but until then, you have the love of family and friends to lean on if you need to. Always remember that, Jean. Your friend, always,

My loss was that of a good friend, golf partner, generous person, and generally a good person to be around who demonstrated a great sense of humor. Harold is one of those that will always have a place in my good memories.

It's hard to believe that my uncle has been gone for over a month. Life has changed so much for everyone involved in Jean and Harold's lives. Not only was Harold my uncle, but he also was my son's godfather. This has been a real tough time for the entire family...
Jean, I promise that Charlie and I are going to make it up soon for a meat raffle.

Harold was a kind and soft hearted person. Never heard him angry, enjoyed life to the fullist. I remember the Crow Wing River trips, playing cards at their house, being at the fire pit, making fish soup, the list goes on forever. I will cherish all the memories of my uncle. It ashame that someone so young can be taken from his family and friends. He is in a wonderful place now with relatives and friends. God bless his family and Harold will be in my prayers forever.

I am Cheryl (Luoma) Michael. I am the daughter of Lila (Nissila) Curry, sister of Harold's mother Gertrude. Although we haven't seen each other in many years, I have always remembered Harold fondly as part of my growing up years. When we were children, all of us "First Cousins" would play with one another and literally grew up together. I will always remember Harold as one of my favorite cousins. My husband Glen and I will you keep you in our thoughts and prayers for strength in the difficult days ahead.
