BLISSFIELD - Michael J. Andrix, age 77, of Blissfield passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at his home.
Mike was born Dec. 14, 1939, in Flint, Mich., to Burdette and Violet Andrix who preceded him in death. Mike grew up in Decatur, Ill. He would spend his summers in Riga with his grandparents and learned to farm alongside Harlan Knoblauch. He attended Millikin University and later graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in agriculture.
Mike was a sergeant in the Army Security Agency. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving from 1962 to 1965. He worked for Blissfield Manufacturing, Hoover Ball Bearing, and retired in 2001 from Tecumseh Products as a computer operations manager. Mike was active in the South Riga Go-Getters 4-H with his children, on the fair board and a sheep leader. He was a member of Blissfield Athletic Boosters for several years, drove for Royal Limousine for eight years and was a Riga volunteer firefighter. In retirement he enjoyed camping and traveling; he was never far from his computer. Mike was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Metamora, Ohio. He enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren's sporting, recreation and family life.
Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Brenda (Brenke DeBacker) Andrix of Blissfield; three children, Stephen (Shannon) Andrix, Charlie (Tara) Andrix, Laura Andrix Cantrell, all of Blissfield; two stepchildren, Christopher (Heidi) DeBacker of Spring Arbor and Amy (Brad) Bettis of Blissfield; a brother, Tom (Judy) Andrix of Wellsville, Ohio; a sister, Patricia Hoag of Sylvania, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren, Crisilee DeBacker, Taylor Cantrell, Sophie DeBacker, Jenna Andrix, Quentin Bettis, Mylie DeBacker, Cara Andrix, Sierra Spallone, Sarah Bettis, Darby DeBacker, Carson Bettis and Addisyn Andrix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Andrix; stepdaughter, Lisa Taylor; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Hoag and Art Brenke.
Memorial services for Michael J. Andrix will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at the Anderson Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield, with Pastor Amanda Ghaffarian officiating. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at the Anderson Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield. Military honors will be conducted by the Blissfield American Legion Post 325 and the Blissfield V.F.W. Post 10912.
