LANDECK — Richard (Dick) Youngpeter, 86, died on December 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 14, 1933 in Landeck to Clarence and Alma (Shirack) Youngpeter.

On May 25, 1957, he married Marilyn M. Schumaker, who preceded him in death. Special friend, Alma Jean Schroeder, survives in Fort Jennings.

Dick grew up a "farm boy" in Landeck and later worked as a manufacturing representative for Kill Bros Co and Unverferth Mfg proudly selling gravity grain boxes throughout the Midwest and Canada. For years he shared his passion for basketball with whoever he could to help them develop skills and determination. He started the boys' basketball grade school basketball programs at St. Johns in 1968 and later did the same for the girls' basketball junior high program in 1977.

He loved his Ohio State Buckeyes, as he was an honored member of the Varsity O Club. For The Ohio State University he was the 1959 Captain of the baseball team and clean-up hitter, as well as playing on the JV basketball team. He took some time between his college years to join the military and served honorably from 1953 through 1955 in Germany and played for the army's Northern Area Command Black Knights basketball team in Europe.

Survivors include a son, Daniel (Dao) Youngpeter. Also surviving four daughters Cindy Ginter (Ronnie Vires), Sue (Neil) Hohenbrink, Lois MacLennan (Dan Grothouse), and Kay (Matt) Clark, and three brothers Don Youngpeter, Leon (Diane) Youngpeter, Joe Youngpeter, and a sister Ruth (Ron) Falter.
