RICHARD TAVENNER
FORT JENNINGS — Richard Tavenner, 83, of Fort Jennings, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born January 11, 1934, to William and Blanche (Stewart) Tavenner. Both preceded him in death.
He married the love of his life Jean Schultz on Aug 11, 1955; she preceded him in death on Mar 28, 2016.
He is survived by three daughters, Deborah Tavenner of Columbus, Susan (Joe) Peschel of Toledo, and Barbara (Jon) Warren of Colona, IL; and a son, Dan (Christine) Tavenner of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Ben (Kendalyn) Diroll, Carrie Diroll, Andrew Tavenner, and Winifred (Craig) Hitchman. He is also survived by his sister June Miller of Lima. He was preceded in death by brother Bill (Mary Lou) Tavenner, sister LaDonna (Arthur) Metz, grandson Christopher Warren, and brother-in-law, Carl Miller.
Dick was a 1952 graduate of Gomer High School where he played Baseball and Basketball. He worked for over 43 years at Fort Jennings Equity. Much of that time at the Rushmore Branch working alone. He helped many area farmers opening the elevator early and staying late, especially during harvest. Dick was always willing to help his Rushmore neighbors clearing snow from driveways and tilling gardens with his tractor. He was a member of Ridge United Methodist Church and Trinity UMC, Delphos.
He and Jean, his wife, took pride in planting their large garden each year, growing an abundance of fruits and veggies, which they shared with many. He especially enjoyed the challenges of growing watermelon and cantaloupe. Watching the cardinals and finches on the feeder outside brought him lots of enjoyment.
We would like to express a special Thank You to Tyrone, our father's companion and friend over the past year.

Love and prayers for all of you. I have many beautiful memories of "Aunt Jean" and "Uncle Dick" on the many trips I took with Bill, MaryLou and Jodi to picnics or sunday drives to their place over the 40+ years they were kind enough to include me in their family. What beautiful parents you had and what precious memories you have to comfort you. Prayers for your family. Mary Lee (Hartman) Ipock.
