Hillsboro, IL—Melvin L. Zimmerman, 78, of Hillsboro, died at 12:20 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at Generations in Lincoln, IL.
He was born April 16, 1940, in Lincoln, the son Melvin S. and Lois Marie (Shea) Zimmerman; they both preceded him in death. He married Jean May Stewart on June 26, 1965, at Wheaton Methodist Church; she preceded him in death on March 2, 2011.
Mr. Zimmerman was a Nursing Home Administrator for several facilities throughout Illinois. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Lincoln, IL; received his BA from SIU-C in 1964; and attended School of Ministry through the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield, IL. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Carlinville; Boy Scouts of America Troop 90 Leader; and Lions Club in Hillsboro. He loved fishing and gardening.
Surviving are his children, Melissa "Lisa" (husband, Mike) Sczerba of Urbana, IL, Rebecca Tyson of Peoria, IL, Dr. David (wife, Charlene) Zimmerman of Nashville, TN, Kathryn Dobrinich of Litchfield, IL, Bryan W. Tobias Zimmerman of Hillsboro, James Robert Donald (wife, Mari) Zimmerman of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Mereka Suzanna Page of Hillsboro, IL; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Anthony Zimmerman of Lincoln; a niece; and a nephew.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018, until time of services at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Carlinville, with the Rev. John Henry, Pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Carlinville officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Memorials may be made St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Carlinville.
