About California

California, a western state that shares borders with Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona, has a lot to like: the Pacific Ocean, Hollywood, wine country, the Silicon Valley, theme parks, and much more. The nation’s most populous state, California is also one of the biggest states in terms of area, ranking third. It has highs – Mount Whitney, at 14,491 feet, is the highest peak of the lower 48 states. It has lows, namely Death Valley, which at 282 feet below sea level makes it the lowest point in the U.S. California’s Central Valley – its agricultural heartland – grows much of the fruits and vegetables that American consumers place on their tables.
