About Minnesota

Minnesota is called the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." The majority of European settlers in Minnesota were from Scandinavia and Germany and it remains an important part of the culture in the state. Minnesota contains some of the oldest rocks found on earth, some which are more than 3 billion years old. Minnesota has no shortage of opportunities for water recreation with over 11,000 lakes and over 6,000 rivers and streams including the origin of the Mississippi River. Ice fishing is a popular sport during the winter months. The state is the corporate headquarters for Target, Best Buy and U.S. Bank. Many well-known musicians are from Minnesota including Prince, Bob Dylan and Eddie Cochran. Life in the state has been portrayed in movies and television shows including “Fargo,” “Grumpy Old Men,” “Little House on the Prairie” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” Bloomington features the Mall of America which is the size of 78 football fields.
