Beryl Kilroy Obituary
Ellen Anne Beryl Jones Kilroy passed away peacefully on the evening of 03 May 2018 here in Lodi, California. She was ninety-three.
Beryl Kilroy led a remarkable life. She completed her university education in Bangor, north Wales, just as WWII was ending. She was a teacher in Devon, England, until 1948. Answering the entreaties of Stephen Patrick Kilroy, the American soldier she had met and dated during the War, she left her native Britain and sailed for the New World. She arrived in Boston in August 1948 to marry Stephen - almost seventy years ago - and she never returned to Europe.
Beryl and Stephen were married for nearly fifty years, completely devoted to one another throughout. The two raised four children, providing for them, schooling them, and moreover showing them an unswerving moral example. Ever striving to improve their lives, Stephen moved the family a total of thirteen times in eighteen years, finally settling here in Lodi.
Beryl made her lasting home in Lodi, living here more than fifty years, since 1966. Beryl was a superb teacher to her children, with a sharp and exacting intellect, an artistic flair, and a delightful sense of humour. She was a fine athlete - the goalie of her field hockey team at school in Wales, and for years a tournament golfer here at Woodbridge. She was a fine cook, whose kitchen issued all the warm and inviting smells of home. She had a keen financial sense, making all the good and needful things in life possible for her family, with seeming ease. Moreover, she was steadfastly honest and forthright in all her dealings.
Stephen Patrick Kilroy would be the first to say that our family had many houses, but only Beryl made any of them home. Beryl was the heart and soul of our hearth and home. Our family have been honored, fortunate and blessed to have such parents.
Beryl Kilroy is preceded in death by Stephen Patrick Kilroy in 1997 and daughter Helen in 2004. Beryl is survived by sons John, Robert and James, by three grandchildren and by two great grandchildren. Services will be private; in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Beryl's favourite charity, St. Jude's Shrine. Beryl, Stephen and Helen reside now with all the Host; may God keep them in the palm of His hand...
