It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jack Navone, long-time resident of Gardnerville, NV. He went to our Lord and Savior on July 10, 2025, at the young age of 93 doing what he loved, working in his yard.
Jack was born on November 5,1931 in San Jose, CA to Lucille Nisick. He later moved to Sonora, CA where he attended High School. He graduated in 1949 and immediately enlisted in the Marines, two days after his 18th birthday. Jack proudly served his county during the Korean War earning a Navy Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal.
After his honorable discharge Jack moved to Oakland, CA where he met the love of his life Betty Yarbrough on his birthday. Jack and Betty were married six weeks later. Jack went to work for Alameda County on a survey crew. On Valentine's Day 1955, Jack and Betty welcomed son Dan into the world.
Jack, Betty, and young Dan moved to Lodi, CA. Jack went to work for San Joaquin County in the Public Works Department eventually becoming Deputy Director of Public Works. Daughter Nancy was born a few years later. Jack was very involved with Dan and Nancy. He was so proud to be a dad. He was a bit of a jokester; he would throw a penny way up in the air, out of sight, run around the yard with a paper bag and somehow catch it. He was a Troop Leader involved with the Boy Scouts of America. On the weekend Jack would enjoy polishing his cars so much so, that his polish rags were the same color as the car. They enjoyed many outings as a family, and with friends, to Lake Camanche, Silver Lake, Blue Lake Springs, and Sonora.
In 1981, at the age of fifty, Jack retired from San Joaquin County. He then went to work with Potters Industries as a Sales Consultant. His new job allowed Jack and Betty to travel to many fun locations and spend more time together. In 1995 Jack and Betty moved to Gardnerville, NV. When Jack retired the second time, he enjoyed spending time working on his property in Gardnerville.
In 2002 Jack was promoted to Grandpa. He became a grandfather again in 2006. Jack loved walking the property with his grandsons' telling stories about his youth and adventures. David and Trevor brought an abundance of joy to Jack.
Jack was multi-talented and not afraid of learning new things. He took care of his yard, and cleaned the house and cooked after Betty became ill. He would occasionally reward himself with video poker at one of the local casinos.
Jack was invited to join the Honor Flight Nevada in 2022. It was a privilege of which he was enormously proud. He visited the Korean War Memorial, and several other monuments in Washington DC. At Capitol Hill he received an Ambassador of Peace medal from the Republic of Korea.
Jack is survived by his daughter Nancy West (Rick), his grandsons David West (Francis) and Trevor West. Jack was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Navone, his brother Dick Navone 2016, wife Betty Navone 2016 and son Dan Navone 2011.
Jack's warm smile, bright blue eyes, and kind spirit will be missed by all that were lucky enough to know him.
The family asks in lieu of flowers; donations be made in Jack's memory to Honor Flight Nevada or
Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.
There will a celebration of the Holy Mass at 12 pm on October 25, 2025, at Saint Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, NV 89410.
