Stony Point - 72, musician, composer and ethnomusicologist, died peacefully at home on Sunday March 17th after battling Parkinson's for several years.

She was born April 7th, 1946 in Bay Shore, Long Island to Blanche and Harold Benary, predeceased.

Her music had first been published when she was 16 years of age. She was ever present in the contemporary music field. A member of the Phillip Glass Group during the 1970's. In 1976, she co-founded Gamelan Son of Lion with Philip Corner and Daniel Goode. She also constructed most of the group's instruments and produced over 12 CD's.

Her work will be cataloged as a part of NYU Fales Library. Major works include Off Broadway theater pieces for John Braswell, extensive works for "Hudson Vagabond Puppets" and two shadow puppet operas entitled "Karna" and "The Story of Esther."

She is survived by her husband Steven Silverstein, daughter Lyra Silverstein, sister Judy Freedman and her nieces Rebecca and Amanda.

In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no funeral services but there will be a memorial concert as a celebration of her life. Details to follow.
