Valeur, Madam Maricia

Madam Maricia Valeur, formerly of Haiti lived to be 108 years of age. She entered her eternal rest on August 1, 2014, at Pine Valley Nursing Home in Spring Valley, NY. The daughter of the late Manasse and Olympia Valeur, Maricia was born on June 12, 1906 in Petite Riviere de L'Artibonite, Haiti. Maricia immigrated to the United States in 1980 and lived with her daughter Lamercie V. Fonvil in Spring Valley, NY.

Maricia was a devoted and loving mother, the world's best grandmother and the perfect mother-in-law. Her charisma, good-naturedness and affability captivated everyone that came in contact with her. Maricia was loved by all with whom she interacted and touched. It was as though she was wired to smile quickly and throw a joke upon meeting someone. Maricia's uprightness, fortitude, benevolence toward her community and sense of brotherhood were second to none. She raised a large family, which included not just her own children but also grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and all others in between in need. The family members live as a close-knit because Maricia was the quintessential role model for kindness, forgiveness and reconciliation. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and so on will always remember grandma's jokes, laughter, but more importantly her way of making everyone feel important and loved. Maricia was a member of the St Joseph Catholic Church in Spring Valley.

Maricia is survived by her daughter Lamercie V. Fonvil, sons: Sagesse Valeur of Haiti, Destine Dorsainvil of French Guiana and by countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends. In addition to her parents and loving husband, Maricia was predeceased by her siblings, son-in-law and 4 children.
