Many, many years ago, Pat Kelly (Sister Peter Mary) was a mentor for me at St. Anastasia School in Fort Pierce, FL where she gave me many pointers to help with my first year of teaching -- 8th grade. The students and I both benefitted from her guidance. She also shared her artistic ablilities with me, including flower arranging, with patience and humor.

For a short time, we both lived in Washington DC. The last time we met it was to attend a ballet at the Kennedy Center.

The Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is close to where our son, daughter-in-law and twin granddaughters live now. I hope to visit her grave the next time we are there -- to say a prayer and to leave a stone.

Pat Kelly, aka Sister Peter Mary, was my principal at St. Ann's in West Palm Beach. She was one great lady and a special friend. So much I learned from her, just by observing her "in action".The Rosarian Community and St. Ann's Community will forever be indebted to her. Amen Alleluia, dear Patsy,Lovingly, Mary Jo Wright Costello aka Sister Maria Veritas

Years ago, I was a troublemaker at Solomon Schechter School, and Mrs Kelly was assigned to the task of helping me to straighten up and fly right. I dreaded being sent to her office. But over the years, she helped me to grow, giving me artwork assignments to decorate the school and helping me to discover the talents I had to offer to others. She saw the spark in me and nurtured it.
Years later, when I taught at Schechter, she was a mentor and friend.
I am truly saddened by the news of her passing. She was a wonderful and positive influence in my life, and shares credit for my being an elementary teacher today.

Pat was an extraordinary mentor and friend to me, and laid the foundation in the early years of my career for the interfaith work that would become such an integral part of my rabbinate. I will always be grateful to her for those years we spent together. When I left the school to move to Atlanta, she gave me a small, framed drawing, which she inscribed with the verse, "wherever you go, I shall go, wherever you live I shall live." (Ruth 1, 16) And so she does, as her memory remains a blessing in my life.

I am so incredibly saddened by the passing of Pat. I worked with Pat for 9 years at the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester! She was a strict administrator who had a heart of gold, was funny, artistic and proud and she made the best Irish soda bread around, a recipe that I have continued to make for over 20 years! May her memory be for a blessing!
