Delano, Kathleen E.
Kathleen Elizabeth Delano, 89, of Briarcliff Manor, NY, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017, after a short illness at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Kathleen was born "between the bridges" in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland to Sarah Duffy and John Goane on April 15, 1928. She attended the convent school locally and dedicated much of her early life to service and support of her family. Kathleen emigrated to the United States at the age of 20 where she was met by her Uncle John Duffy who had arranged employment as a domestic in Greenwich, CT. She lived frugally, sent money home to help her family, and even reimbursed her uncle for her passage. It was during this time that she met James W. Delano, the love of her life, whom she married on October 4th, 1952. Together they were blessed with and raised 6 beloved children. Kathleen was a dedicated mother and partner, a woman of faith, and a model of selflessness. She was an indispensable partner and multifaceted resource in her husband's land surveying business for almost 40 years, and yet still remained ever-available to support the church and her family in countless ways through the years. Kathleen appreciated simple things. She enjoyed spearmint sugarless gum, crosswords, bowling & butterscotch candies (thanks Uncle John Douglass); she was an avid NY Giants and Yankees fan and inspired all with her boundless energy and passion. But, most of all, she valued family and faith above all else. Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James William Delano, her eldest son James Winthrop Delano, and her siblings Edward Goane, Charles Goane, Mary Burns Passarelli, James Goane, and Leo Goane (a.k.a. Br. Robert Goane, OH). Kathleen is survived by her children Patricia Delano of Worcester, MA, John & Judy Delano of Jensen Beach, FL, Mark & Maureen Delano of Briarcliff Manor, NY, Kathleen Minieri of White Plains, NY, and Matthew Delano of Arvada, CO, her 12 beloved grandchildren Alicia Delano, Sarah Delano Stowe, Jillian Ahrenberg, Jarad Delano, Jordan Delano, Jason Cebula, Michael Cebula, Philip Cebula, Margaret Delano, James Delano, Amy Delano, and Jack Delano, her 11 great-grandchildren Aidan Littwin , Veronica Stowe, Lucy Stowe, James Stowe, Charlotte Stowe, Evelyn Cebula, Isabella Cebula, Scarlett Cebula, Hailey Ahrenberg, Aden Delano, and Rylee Delano, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings Lou Goane, Vincent Goane, Margaret Burns, Michael Goane, Pauline Gallagher, and Kevin Goane; and sister-in-laws Patricia Douglass (& John Douglass) and Joan Delano (& Philip Delano deceased). Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Wednesday (Today) from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass, St. Theresa's Church, Briarcliff Manor, NY on Thursday 10 AM. Interment, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Greenburgh, NY to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to the cause to which her brother dedicated his life: St. John of God Community Services 1145 Delsea Drive Westville Grove, NJ 08093 C/O Brother Thomas Osorio, OH 1-856-8457030 http://www.sjogcs.org/.
