Sencen Sr., Robert J.
Robert J. Sencen Sr., a longtime resident of Yorktown, NY passed in his sleep Tuesday morning. He is predeceased by his grandson Michael J. Hill Jr. and his wife Barbara Ann Sencen. He is survived by his children Roberta Van Etten and her husband Mark and their son Mark Jr., Deborah Hill and her husband Mike, Robert J. Sencen Jr. and his wife Lisa, and his brother Richard Sencen.
Dad was a very proud alumni of NYANG 105th MAC, serving as Technical Sergeant and Fire Chief at Westchester County Airport in the 1960's, a job he loved very much as both an Airman and a Fireman. From there he went to work for Link Simulators and NASA in the space race. He then went into marketing working at Gries Reproducer, Sanyo, MCS Tools and Slater Electronics. Through the 1990's the family business thrived in Father and Daughter's Paint and Wallpapering, "Facelifts for the home."
In his younger days dad played basketball, tennis, golf, bowling and enjoyed target shooting. Very much a social person, he and mom went on more cruises than we can count and have friends all over the world. When asked why they cruised so much he would say, "if not me, who and if not now, when?" He always said "my idea of roughing it is carrying my own bags into the hotel."
Mom and Dad passed on to us three children many of our mannerisms and characteristics; some good, some bad and the ones that make you say, "I can't believe I just did that! That's what my mom or dad does." Like it or not, it's who we are. I've been waiting for an adult to tell me it's going to be okay; your parents are your parents, but now we're adults.
Dad passed on to me my love of airplanes and modelling and I started building my own models at the age of 5. Now 45 years later I can see no better legacy than the hundreds of models on our ceilings and in cases, something I will always cherish and hope to pass onto my step granddaughter and his step great granddaughter, Summer Lilly Rodriguez, whom he loved to have visit our home as she asked to see the "airpanes." Perhaps there is no better tribute to his memory for me than the Shooting Star on the pedestal at the entrance to the airbase where he served so long ago.
Good night dad. Give Barb and Mike a hug and kiss for us and let us know it is okay. We will see you again in the next life. Until then, tell everyone we said hello and we miss you all.

My prayers and condolences to you all. I have great memories of your dad as we grew up in Yonkers. His love of model making inspired me to take up the hobby also. We would often go down to the creek with my " disasters" and place a small firework in at as it sailed away into oblivion.
May he rest in peace with Barbara and all the family. May you be comforted .
God bless
