Frederick Prescott, 84, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at his home in the San Francisco Bay area with his loving wife at his side. Frederick S. Prescott, M.D. was born May 1936 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Charles F. Poposki DDS and Claire Poposki. He attended Aquinas College and the University of Michigan undergraduate school; and the University of Michigan Medical School where he graduated in 1960 at 24 years old. Fred finished his residency in anesthesia at UCLA in 1963. The highlights of his career in medicine were his 2 year commission as Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy in San Pedro where he served as Chief of Anesthesia, 1965-1968. He practiced at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange and Children's Hospital of Orange County where he served as Chief of Anesthesia at both institutions, 1984-1988. He furthered his career by completing a fellowship in Pain Management and Palliative Care at USC, Cleveland Clinic, Northwestern Medical Center in Chicago, and Mayo Clinic. He earned a triple board certification in anesthesia, pain management, and palliative care. He practiced pain management in the Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage areas, 2000-2004. Real Estate was among his other professional interests. He was a real estate broker for many years in Irvine, Newport Beach, and La Quinta, California, He even helped his fellow residents in his Assisted Living Community by becoming a notary so they could get this service without having to leave the community. Fred loved music and was proficient at the piano in the Jerry Lee Lewis style. He also enjoyed banjo and harmonica. He loved Dixieland Jazz and this interest brought him and his wife, Elaine on Jazz Cruises where Fred enjoyed friendships with many of the musicians. Fred was also a golf enthusiast which became a favorite pastime of his and his wife. They enjoyed traveling and often incorporated golf into their travels. He married his wife, Elaine Jennings Prescott of 24 years in 1996. He is survived by his wife Elaine, sister-in-law Sherry Hitchcock, sons Steven Prescott, Michael Prescott, and Brad Prescott, daughter Valerie Holden, and grandson Evan; siblings John (Patricia) Poposki of Norton Shores, Michigan; Joyce (Richard) Pacer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Fran (Mort) Van Howe of Fennville Michigan; and nieces, nephews, especially Carl Poposki, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Charles J. Poposki, M.D., of Florida. Fred was gregarious, loved a fun party, and prioritized learning to "keep his brain active". He is greatly missed.
