WOOSLEY, PHILLIP GENE, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 25, 2013.
His wife and daughter were at his side at St. Mary's & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, KY. Phillip was born March 13, 1943 in Caneyville, KY to the late Albert Woosley and Augusta Fraim Woosley Whitehead and stepfather Damon Whitehead. He attended Caneyville High School and played basketball on the Caneyville Purple Flash team, which went to the KY Sweet 16 State Championship in 1962. He attended Western Kentucky University and earned Rank 1 in education and counseling.
Phillip was a part of the Grayson County school system for more than three decades and especially enjoyed his role as a high school guidance counselor. He also drove a school bus for 33 years and chauffeured school children from Grayson County to various performing arts events throughout Kentucky. In addition to his work at school, he also owned his own business, Woosley's Antenna & Electric. He served Grayson County for over 40 years as a licensed electrician, wired homes, installed satellites and put up antennas. After retiring from the County School system, he became Maintenance Supervisor for Homeland, Inc. where he and his crew served over 4,000 apartments throughout the state.
A man of strong faith from a young age, he was a great example to everyone he met. Phillip was known for his gentle smile, bright, blue eyes, blonde hair and his enthusiasm to lend a helping hand to all who asked.
He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Ralph Woosley, of Caneyville.
Phillip is survived by his college sweetheart wife of 43 years, Karen Hopper Woosley of Leitchfield; daughter, Dr. Lynne Michelle Woosley of Louisville; brothers, Wendell (Georgia) Woosley of Louisville, Charles (Linda) Whitehead, Bobby (Patsy) Whitehead, and Roger (Judy) Whitehead, all of Elizabethtown; and two sisters, Pat Bratcher and June (Roscoe) Swift of Caneyville.
