Fred Lee Battle Jr.

BATTLE, FRED LEE JR., born June 12, 1936 in Clairton, PA, son of the late Fred Lee Battle and Luvenia Williams Battle. Departed on September 10, 2013.

"Owe no man anything, but to love him." Rom. 13:8 is the scripture he strived to uphold.

He was a decorated Vietnam veteran who served in the US Army from 1954 - 1974. He was a retired US Postal Carrier who served from 1974-1996. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), who served as Commander of the chapter 6 division for over 10 years. But, most of all he was a friend to almost everyone he met. He was a family man, who was an inspiration and a blessing to his children and extended family.

As he joins his beloved Ruth Lavern Battle in glory, he leaves behind 11 loving children, Fredrick Lee Battle, Chris (Vickie) Battle, Matthew (Cheri) Battle, Kathy Ruth Battle, Frank (YaShawna) Battle, Carl Edward Briggs, Patricia Briggs Burks, Michael (Renee) Briggs, Wayne (Cathy) Briggs, Susan Briggs Mathis and Barbara Briggs Bowden; 33 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; a host of others and a legacy of quiet strength, family and love. He will be missed but always remembered. Lifetime Soldier, Forever a Steeler, Professional Letter Carrier, Husband and Daddy! Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 2707 Fleming Ave., Louisville, KY, with burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Monday at G. C. Williams Funeral Home.
