Dr. Gideon K. Zimmerman


91, a resident of the Westminster Terrace, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011.

He was born, August 18, 1920 in Lehr, ND to the late Konrad and Christine Maier Zimmerman. Dr. Zimmerman was ordained May 23, 1943 by the North American Baptist Conference. He served as a pastor for 12 years with North American Baptist Churches in Auburn, MI, Grand Forks, ND, and Milwaukee, WI. He served 12 years as General Secretary for the Sunday School Union and Department of Christian Education. From 1968 to July 1979 he was the Executive Secretary of North American Baptist Conference. In 1971, North American Seminary conferred upon him, the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. He was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, and the Mary Martha-Fishermen Class.

He was preceded by his loving wife of 65 years, Eleanor and their son, Mark E. Zimmerman.

Survivors include his two sons; Dr. Thomas A. Zimmerman (Linda), and Rev. Paul R. Zimmerman (Judy). His 6 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Rev. Benjamin Zimmerman.

A service to celebrate the life of Dr. Zimmerman, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Sanctuary of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2800 Frankfort Ave. with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 9-10:30 Wednesday in the Sanctuary of his church.

Expressions of sympathy are requested to the Memorial Fund of his church.
