Gordon R. Parsons

PARSONS, GORDON R., 92, husband of the late Dorothy Unglaub Parsons, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 in Louisville, KY.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald Alan Parsons; and his brothers, Fred Parsons and Roger Parsons.

Gordon was born in Keokee, VA, on December 9, 1920, the oldest son of Grace and Roy Parsons. The family moved to Harlan County, KY, where Gordon excelled in academics and athletics at Hall High School. After graduation from the University of Kentucky, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded a Purple Heart and overcame serious injuries to embark on a successful career in business, specializing in accounting. During his employment at Lehigh Portland Cement Co., he lived in Miami, FL, Allentown, PA, and Louisville, KY. Gordon enjoyed playing golf and watching his much loved UK Wildcats.

Survivors include his sisters and brothers, Myra Kunath, Inez York, Gaynell Parsons, Dennis Parsons, Ralph Parsons, and Dick Parsons.

His visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with a celebration of life service immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
