HUFF, COMMANDER MAHLON S., 85, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Emeritus at Stonecreek Lodge.

A native of Midland, MI, Mahlon was the son of Ferne S. Huff (school teacher) and Edwin G. Huff (school principal). He committed to be an Air Force pilot straight out of high school, but was released from that commitment when World War II ended and there was no longer a need for pilots. He was a Navy pilot, veteran of the Korean War, and served on the USS Midway. Mahlon's postgraduate work earned him two more baccalaureate degrees, the last from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

After retiring from the Navy, Mahlon taught JROTC at Valley High School for approximately 15 years, followed by teaching for USC at military bases in North Carolina, New York, Korea, and Japan.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, C. June (Spoolstra) Huff; three children, Craig Shepard Huff (Pamela), Kimberly Blackwell (Brad) and Marta Renn (Donald); seven grandchildren, Veronica, Robbie, Matthew, Andrew, Elizabeth, Tristan and Jered; and a great granddaughter, Adelaide.
