Judi Rice Obituary

Rice , Judi,

68, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2014 at home with her husband by her side.

Judi was born November 22, 1946, in Franklin County, KY to Marjorie (Ricketts) Wallace, and the late Sylvan Wallace. Judi was a graduate of Kentucky Southern College, and The University of Louisville. She taught Yoga at the University of Louisville, as well as in private practice. Judi made several trips to Pune India to study at the Iyengar Institute, and directed the Iyengar Yoga teacher training program in Louisville.

Judi is survived by her husband Daniel, (Gus) Rice; and her son John Wallace Robinson. She loved to walk and shared a love of nature and enjoyed many family camping trips in various wilderness locales.

Survivors also include two sisters: Glenna Powell (William); Mary Carolyn Nilest; as well as many nieces, nephews, dear friends and Yoga students.

Judi exemplified the words of Mahatma Gandhi: "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service to others." Judi took those words to heart and used her gifts and talents to serve the greater good. Judi will be dearly missed by those who loved her and she will be remembered, not just for her spiritual wisdom and incredible insight, but her sense of humor; her attitude towards life and death; and her peaceful, joyful presence.

A "Gratitude Feast" in Judi's honor will be held at the Jeffersontown Community Center, 10617 Taylorsville Road, 40299, on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 1 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The Healing Place.

On the 6th anniversary of Judi’s death it was a warm and balmy day. Exactly the kind of day she enjoyed most for long rambles in the woods and close conversations with her beloveds. Judis spirit lives on in all of us who knew her. She is our inner Sun Salute.

She touched & taught us for many years, with every iota of her being. But her teaching in those final weeks, standing with such gratitude and grace at death's opening door, was a stunning and unspeakable gift. Still I hear Judi's laughter, and the summary mantra of our last visit: "The Oneness... Oh The Oneness!!"
