Marty Dunn Obituary

Marty Dunn

Louisville - Marty Dunn, 73, took the rest of the day off, after a long battle with cancer. Marty, a native of Schenectady, N.Y., was a Louisvillian by choice. He was most proud of his service to God, Country, and Notre Dame.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Leslie; children, Kelly Wine (Jeffrey) and Patrick Dunn; three Perfect Grandchildren, Kendall, Lincoln, and Boone.

He served many roles at St. Barnabas, including Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, volleyball coordinator, volleyball coach of Two City Championships, and Picnic gaming chair. He was also a long-term volunteer at St. Johns Homeless shelter as The Tues coffee Hat Guy. He was a decorated Vietnam Pilot, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, numerous Air Medals, retiring with the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a longtime member of Dentin's Crispy Warriors, a lifetime member of VFW 1170, and charter member of Waterfront networking. He also served as the Commissioner of the City of Hurstbourne Acres for twenty-five years.

Marty was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He served as President, long time Board Member, Scholarship Committee, and the Bus Guy of the Notre Dame Alumni Association of Greater Louisville. He was a longtime Destin Snowbird, he enjoyed wintering with family and friends in Destin, "seeing snow in my rear-view mirror". He enjoyed fishing around the world, including Ireland, Bermuda, Quetico Canada, Alaska, and throughout the Florida Gulf Coast.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Club of Greater Louisville or St. Johns Homeless Shelter. Online condolences may be shared at www.Ratterman.com.

James Brazee. Martt was a wonderful person and friend. We were roommates my last year at Notre Dame and he lived with my parents and I after he graduated while waiting to go in the Air Force. I miss him greatly!

Commm. Dunn was my Boss for years as Police Commissioner of Hurstbourne Acres. He was instrumental in allowing
Me as Chief of Police to buy equipment
And hire more personnel.

Many times we worked hard together to
Make sure the citizens of HA were protected and had easy access to
Our Police Officers.

Marty,

Thank you for everything.
God Bless and God Speed Sir.

I knew Marty from volunteering at St. John's - he was my relief barista on Tuesday mornings and always walked in with a wide smile which he generously shared with everyone he met. His silly hats he wore each week were a trademark that we looked forward to seeing every week. He earned his sainthood humbly serving others - what a role model for us to emulate. Peace & Godspeed, Woody Miller

Marty was a great help as always for the fish fry at St. Barnabas. Always had a smile on his face. Barbara and I could always depend on him on those fun Fridays.
Also, i always knew he was by our house because he would leave a golf ball on my windshield, while walking Jackson on the golf course
We will miss Marty...... Kap

You made Tuesdays special for me and a lot of guys getting a cup of coffee and a treat. Thank you for your service to your country and those less fortunate. I will never forget your example.
