Charlotte Price Obituary

Price, Charlotte Williams "Toddy",

Charlotte "Toddy" Williams Price died on October 17, 2017. Born on January 21, 1926, she was the youngest of the five children of Anna Cartledge and Richard G. Williams. She grew up in the Highlands and attended Louisville Collegiate School. She graduated from Vassar College. After working in Boston for a year, she began work under Dr. Justus Bier in the art history department of the University of Louisville.

Toddy was a gifted sculptor and painter committed to supporting the arts in the community, especially the Art Center Association (now Louisville Visual Art). In addition to many sculptural portraits, she completed a number of large commissioned works, notably a sculpture of St. Francis at St. Francis of Assisi Church, and Mother Catherine Spalding for the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Nazareth, KY. Other works are located at the Home of the Innocents, The Healing Place, and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

She was preceded in death by her son Charles B. Price III, her husband of 49 years Charles B. Price, Jr., her husband William L. Hoge, Jr., and her devoted companion William R. Cory.

She is survived by her daughters Ann Price Davis (John) of Louisville, and Elizabeth M. Price (David Lamb) of Philadelphia; grandchildren Elizabeth T. Davis (William Bird) and Ian C.B. Davis (Ellie) of Louisville, Louisa B. Diaz of Crested Butte, CO, Charles D. Diaz and Stuart G. Diaz of Philadelphia; and four great-granddaughters.

The family wishes to thank her patient caregivers Marilyn Chandler, Sandra Holden, Cynthia Stallard, Tonia Howard, Marlena Moore, Ashli Harvey, and Dorothy Gaines.

Visitation is planned for 3-5 pm, Monday, October 23, at Miralea, 320 N. Joe Conway Circle, Masonic Home, KY. A memorial service will be held at 11 am. Tuesday, October 24, in the chapel of Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to Louisville Visual Art, 1538 Lytle St, Louisville, KY 40203.

Charlotte Price held clay classes in her basement for young aspiring artists and from that time on continued to be an inspiration to many artists in Louisville. Her sense of humor never faded. She had not only a great talent, she had a great wit, smile and a wonderful laugh. I will forever hold her dear to my heart, and be grateful for her influence.
