He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha, his daughter, Anne Bogel (William), his son, Jim Schildknecht (Sarah); his brother, Ron Schildknecht (Flora); his grandchildren, Jackson, Sarah, Lucy and Silas Bogel, and Nick Schildknecht; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Henry Schildknecht, Sr., and his mother, Nona Burns Schildknecht of Mackville, KY.

Hank was a graduate of the University of Louisville and University of Louisville Law School. He was a real estate attorney for over 40 years, and past president of Kentuckiana Real Estate Investors Association where he mentored new investors. It was with deep sorrow and sympathy that I read about Hank's death. My husband Roe and I met Hank at KREA many years ago and instantly liked him. I have always been impressed by his character and morals, not to mention his thoroughness and expertise as our real estate attorney. I know he will be greatly missed and my prayer for his family is for peace and healing in this time of loss. May God continue to hold you in the palm of His hand.

Dear Martha,
Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time.
Hank was a true treasure. His love for you, his children, his colleagues and staff was evidenced in everything he did. He was instrumental in getting my business off the ground and I owe my success to his leadership.
My fondest memories of Hank are watching him enjoy life, dancing the polka with you and toasting his friends and family with good German food and drink!
I envy heaven, but we’re thankful to have been able to meet and work with this great man.
~ Our sincere condolences

I have been proud to call Hank a friend and professional colleague for years. It was always a welcome sight to see Hank at the Clerk's office and I was always in a good mood after chatting with him.
Hank and I shared two lifetime obsessions: baseball and Mel Brooks' "The Producers". When I went to a baseball game with Hank or saw him at a game, he would usually be wearing his old Brooklyn Dodgers cap (who wears a Brooklyn Dodgers cap?). After seeing the 1967 movie "The Producers" at my suggestion, he got so hooked, he was among the first to run to NY to see the Broadway show.
Hank and I came from very different backgrounds and from different ends of the political spectrum. It didn't matter. Hank was a great guy and I will miss him.

Henry Schildknecht
I first met Hank in 1985, through University of Louisville Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE). I had no idea he would eventually be an incredible influence in my life. As a real estate attorney, he ended up guiding me through many real estate transactions during the 90’s. Hank could close real estate transactions and could litigate disputes in front of circuit court judges and commissioners. As the president and leader of Kreia he showed me and many others how to get organized. When he took on a task, with his drive and self-discipline, he could out focus anybody. Hank was Rock Solid. As a friend, he would take his time, listen to your problems, and provide the most thoughtful advice and guidance possible. When he did not know what you were talking about, he would say: “PLEASE” (meaning please reword your statement!).
His character was at the top of the moral - ethical chart.
I already miss him greatly.

Hank Schildknecht was truly a gem of a guy. Unparalleled in his kindness and generosity; he no doubt had a heart of gold. Hank’s family and his many many many friends have my absolute sincerest condolences. I know that all who knew Hank will agree that they just don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

We go back to when Ann answered the phones down on market st. Hank always prepared. I loved his eulogy at Ed Melton's funeral, and how much he loved Kreia. No one can fill Hank's shoes in how he handled elections and the entire, labor intensive Annual Ed Melton Award process and presentation. Hank and Martha always went out of their way to say thank you Mike whenever I wrote articles mentioning him. If u knew Hank, I could go on and on... Rip. Mike Butler
