Bettie Sue Murphy died July 29, 2017 at Treyton Oak Towers. She is survived by her son Thomas Murphy, sister-in-law Elinor Darragh and numerous nephews and nieces who love her dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Murphy, son Jack Patton Murphy, sisters Dr Patricia Chappell and Jacquelyn Cress. She was a member of Christ Church United Methodist and a member of the Pathfinders Sunday school class. Member of Alpha Delta Kappa educator's service organization Theta chapter and former Crescent Hill Women's Club. Bettie was born in Horse Cave, Kentucky. As a teenager, her family moved to Louisville, she graduated from Shawnee High School and University of Louisville where she met her husband. They were married in 1950 and lived in North Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, and New York before moving to Michigan. She spent her career as a high school educator, where she gave her love to her students and they gave theirs back. She retired from the Michigan school system. Bettie developed the first child development classes for student parents in her district. She moved back to Louisville in 1994 after retirement. Her visitation will be 9:30-10:30am Wednesday August 2, 2017 with funeral service 10:30am at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison at Barret Avenue with burial to follow in the Horse Cave Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude to staff of Treyton Oak Towers for the loving care and Christ Church for their visits, care and support to Tom and Bettie and family. Memorial gifts to Christ Church United Methodist Church.
