Betty Goode Hamilton Obituary
Hamilton, Betty Goode,

87, passed away after a short illness on Oct. 10, 2017, at Baptist Health. Born on June 4, 1930, and blessed by God with uncommonly good health throughout her life, Betty was also blessed with a mercifully short final illness, passing from this world quietly in her sleep, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

A native of Clementsville, KY, where she and her family belonged to St. Bernard's parish, Betty moved to Louisville in 1950 with her younger sister Rene. She took a job as a telephone operator at South Central Bell, where she met her future husband, Edmond Hamilton, a budding executive who had starred at halfback at the University of Kentucky during the legendary Bear Bryant's historic run of three bowl games in 1950, 1951, and 1952. The young couple married in 1958, and lived in Atlanta, GA, Owensboro, KY, Louisville, KY and Freehold NJ, in turn, as Ed held various positions with the phone company, finally settling for good back in Louisville in 1970. Their four boys were thus born in the four different cities along the way.Betty belonged to St. Margret Mary Catholic Church for 46 years, sending all her boys to the connected school. She also belonged to the YMCA during the last two decades of her life, frequenting the Middletown and Northeast branches, particularly enjoying the water aerobics classes offered by the latter, and making many good friends at both branches.

Hailing from a large, close-knit family, Betty grew up with her eight siblings in a wooden farmhouse built by her father's own hands. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lindsey and Mae Montgomery Goode; by her brothers Lilburn Goode, Frank Goode, and Jack Goode; and by her sisters Louella Clements, Rene Rodman, and Linda Maier. Betty is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years , Edmond J.; by her brother Joseph Robert Goode; her sister Alice Higgins; and by her sons: Edmond T. (wife, Debbie Martin); Jeffrey; Joseph Robert (wife, Leslie); and Christopher (wife, Raissa de la Rosa Hamilton); and by her granddaughters: Jenna and Rachel Hamilton; and Sofia and Lucia de la Rosa Hamilton. Betty is also survived by numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2:00pm - 8:00pm on Thursday, Oct. 12 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Rd., East Louisville. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, Oct. 13 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church on 7813 Shelbyville Rd. with burial directly thereafter in Calvary Cemetery at 1600 Newburg Rd., in Louisville.
