Cassius Morton Clay Jr. Obituary
Cassius Morton Clay, Jr.

Louisville - passed quietly in his sleep in the early morning of October 20, 2018, at Kindred Hospital after a brief illness. Born March 2, 1929, in Ashland, KY, he was the son of the late Cassius M. Clay, Sr., and Rosa "Brady" Bailey Clay. Cassius was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School where he played numerous sports and eventually went on to play minor league baseball for five years. In later years, he was a machinist, business owner, and entrepreneur. He loved golf and would play anywhere at any time; he also participated in multiple pro/am golf tournaments over his lifetime. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, William Mason Clay; older brothers, C. Lowell Clay; William M. Clay; and grandson David Clay Griffith. He is survived by his daughters Teresa L. Clay of Princeton, WV; Sharon Clay Griffith and her husband, Donald; grandson, Jon Daniel Griffith and his fiancé Victoria; and great-grandson Liam David Griffith all of Glen Allen, VA; and his devoted caregiver of five years, Crevon Blackburn of Louisville, whom he considered his third daughter. He also leaves behind his lifelong friends with whom he shared a weekly lunch for the past several years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Southern Baptist Church, 1519 West St. Catherine, Louisville, KY, where Cassius faithfully attended services every Sunday for the past four years. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Hayes, Sr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
