Catherine Rose McDonald "Cassie" Schuhmann Obituary
Schuhmann, Catherine "Cassie" Rose McDonald,

99, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 surrounded by loving family. She was born July 29th, 1918 to Matthew Joseph and Rose Imelda Jansen McDonald in Mobile, Alabama.

She graduated from the Convent of Mercy Academy in Mobile, Alabama and attended Nazareth College (now Spalding University) in Louisville.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her late husband of 49 years, Edward Nicholas Schuhmann along with her brothers and sisters: Dennis McDonald of Montgomery, Alabama, Lizette Robinson of McComb, Mississippi, William McDonald and M.J. McDonald both of Mobile, Alabama, and Mary Kalusche of McComb, Mississippi.

Left to cherish her memory and her life are her 10 children: Edward Schuhmann (Wanda); Sister Catherine Marie, C.P. of Whitesville; William Schuhmann (Elizabeth) of Ft. Myers, Florida; Mary Schafrik (Robert) of Williamsburg, Virginia; Dennis Schuhmann (Carole); Thomas Schuhmann (Susie) of Miramar Beach, Florida; Charlie Schuhmann (Sharon); Michelle Hall (Fred); Sarah Doolittle (David ) and Paul Schuhmann along with her 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren with three more on the way.

Cassie was a former member of Holy Name and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parishes. She was a founding member of St. John Vianney parish and currently belongs to St. Agnes. Cassie was a member of the Passionist Auxiliary of Ladies Society (PALS) and formerly worked as a volunteer in the Our Lady of Peace gift shop.

A devoted wife, mother, and friend, Cassie was a conduit of wisdom and love to all she touched. She loved cooking for family and friends and spending time in service to others. Resilient, frank, and quick-witted, Cassie was always there to celebrate, console, or give advice.

She lived a full and blessed 99 years partially because of the good care she took of herself and in her later years due to the devotion and care given to her by her son Paul with whom she lived.

Our family would like to thank her caregiver Rita, Dr. Balakrishna, and the staff at Baptist Hospital East in her final 3 days, and all of the living and deceased members of the SJV "Birthday Girls" for their camaraderie with Cassie over the years.

Visitation will be Monday, September 4, from 2-8 pm. at Ratterman's Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 5 at 10 am at St. Agnes Church, 1920 Newburg Road, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
