93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Christine was born January 6, 1924 in Columbia, Kentucky, the daughter of Roosevelt Lasley and Katie Lasley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion G. Southers, son Michael R. Southers. and four siblings; Catherine (Neblett), Mary (Comer), Edwin and Kenneth Lasley.

She is survived by three sons Marion Gary Southers Jr. (Lillie), Richard Parker Southers and William Frank Southers Sr., five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Christine attended University of Louisville earning a Masters of Education degree in 1966. She became a teacher in the Louisville Public School system resulting in her appointment to Director of the Head Start Program in 1967. In the following years she was the Principal of various schools in Louisville with her finally retiring as the Principal of Bertha Trunnell Elementary in June 1983.

Christine was an active member of the west end community and would frequently go to yard sales. She also made many friends throughout the community by being one of the top Avon saleswomen in the area.

Christine was an active member of First Virginia Avenue Baptist as the superintendent of Sunday school.

She was a member of many professional organizations; The Kentucky Association of School Administrators, The National Association of Elementary School Principals, Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association (JCRTA) and the Kentucky Education Association to name a few.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, September 23, at First Virginia Avenue Baptist Church, 3601 Virginia Ave, Louisville, Ky. Visitation is from 9 am - 11 am with the funeral beginning at 11 am. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery.
