Clark Werner Obituary

CHARLESTOWN WERNER, DR. CLARK WILFRED, 84, died Wednesday at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN. He was a native of Charlestown, a graduate of Charlestown High School and Ohio State University, a veteran of the Army, where he served as a captain, and a veterinarian in Charlestown. He was a former board member of Clark County Memorial Hospital and the Indiana Veterinarian Association, a member of First United Methodist Church in Charlestown and a 50-year member of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge #226, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, Shriners, Charlestown Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the mayor of Charlestown and the Sagamore of the Wabash Award by the governor of Indiana. Dr. Werner was preceded in death by his wives, the former Evelyn Ahrendt and the former Mary Alice Walker Burns. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Werner; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and William C. Herndon Jr. of New Albany, IN, Pamela and Douglas Freeman of Bloomington, IN, Alice and Gregory Webb of Jeffersonville and Ann and Michael McAlexander of Charlestown; six stepdaughters, Lola Weir of Charleston, WV, Alice Weir of Boulder, CO, Sharon Kopp of Jeffersonville, Sue Ann Burns of Ormond Beach, FL, Alice Garrett of Sellersburg, IN, and Marie Sexton of Henryville, IN; one brother, Delyn Werner of Sunnyvale, CA; one sister, Catherine Klinge of Pasadena, CA; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremy Herndon, Ross and Lynn Freeman and Jennifer, Aaron and Evelyn McAlexander; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and foster grandchildren. The funeral service for Dr. Werner will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, with burial in Silver Creek Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family is in my thoughts and prayers at this time of your loss. Dr. Werner had a special manner with animals and those owned by them. He will certainly be missed by all those who knew his gentle spirit and his healing touch.
