He was an early campaign manager for Ohio senator George Voinovich, was manager of Frankie Yankovic, "America's Polka King", and had a strong interest in US Civil War history. He was a member of the Louisville Civil War Roundtable, the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College and The Lincoln Forum. Ed was an avid traveler: from Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Cuba to Europe. He was particularly fond of traveling on America's inland waterways aboard the American Queen and Delta Queen steamboats.
