G.a. "Tony" Garcia Obituary
G.A. "Tony" Garcia

Louisville - G.A. "Tony" Garcia, age 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville. He was born July 16, 1944 to George and Hazel Garcia, incidentally, at the old Kentucky Baptist Hospital on Barrett Avenue in Louisville.

After graduating in 1963 from Trinity High School, he happily circumvented the halls of higher learning to embark on a lifetime of self-education on his own terms. After many years working at the family businesses, Falls City Flying Service, Inc. & Aluminum Cruisers, Inc., he went on to create Garcia Engineering, Inc., the banner under which he did some of his most important work designing and constructing various creations for businesses and individuals alike.

Tony was an engineer, designer, fabricator, welder, machinist, artist, historian, humorist, gardener, philosopher, and consummate logician. Though not a pilot himself, he had an intense lifelong love for aviation and the art of flight. Of all his passions and pursuits, however, he had no greater love than that of racing and motorsports. Be it behind the wheel of his own custom built dragster or being in the pits with his crew during a sprint or midget car race, Tony was always in his element amid burning rubber and firing pistons.

He was a renaissance man of immeasurable talent and skill. He was a force of nature equipped with a big personality, an even bigger heart, a wicked sense of humor, and a wholly unwavering love for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jane (Thompson); two sons, Brian (Mary-Kate) and Colin (Kimberly) one grandson, Coen and countless others who loved him dearly.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Tony touched are invited to Pearson Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, from 4pm - 7pm on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, to reminisce, support, grieve, laugh and swap legendary Tony stories. The funeral service will be held at 12pm Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Pearson's, with a burial service at Cave Hill Cemetery to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages making a donation in Tony's honor to any of his favorite charities: Louisville Deaf Oral School, or The Salvation Army.
