Guy T. "Buddy" Pirtle Obituary
SCOTTSBURG - Pirtle, Guy T. "Buddy," 73, died on Thursday, December 6, 2012.

He was the former owner and operator of Mariann Travel Inn and Restaurant in Scottsburg, Indiana. Buddy loved his family and friends tremendously and felt during his life he was blessed with both. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing and just enjoying being outdoors to take in all the beauties of Mother Nature. Buddy's love of airplanes led him to get his pilot's license in 1976. He served on the Indiana Hotel Motel Association board of directors for several years, and proudly served on the Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Dept., was a member of the Scott County Tourism board for many years and served as President for most of those years. Buddy was awarded the Mayors Good Neighbor Award and received the Lieutenant Governors hospitality award and was a proud member of Moose Family Lodge 2324, where he made many lasting friendships. Buddy loved operating Mariann Travel Inn and Restaurant, and during his 35 plus years there was blessed with wonderful employees. He especially enjoyed the many young people that started their first job there and watching them become good citizens.

Buddy was preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda Sue Cooper and Lorene Joyce Hack.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Dorie (Cox) Pirtle; a daughter, Shawna Parker (Doug); two stepdaughters, Kristy Barton (Richie) and Kim Keller (Joe); a brother, Jack Pirtle (Rita); two brothers-in-law, Benny Cooper and Eddie Hack of Kentucky; nine grandchildren, Megan Richey (Donald), Lauren Richey (James), Ceclia and Guy Parker, Sidney, Addison and Garrison Barton, Olivia and Chase Keller; four great grandchildren, Braelyn, Bryton, Lilah and Hailey Richey; a cousin, Bill Pirtle (Joyce), who was more like a brother.

Buddy always said it was fun being him and with this lineup of family, you can see why.

Funeral service is 1 p.m. Sunday at Collins Funeral Home with cremation following services. Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday.
