LAY, James Albert,

81, of Louisville passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 05, 2017 in Hudson, Ohio. He was born February 29, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana, son of the late Nealie Lay and Frances Malone Lay.

James was a Service Technician/Adjustor for over 44 years until his retirement from Murphy Elevator Company in 1996. He was a volunteer fire fighter for over 35 years; 27 years as a member of the Middletown Fire Department.

He was a member of the Middletown United Methodist Church, the Middletown Masonic Lodge and Middletown Loyal Order of the Moose #5.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Marvalene Brewer Lay; companion, Kay Hodges; a grandson, Kyle Haywood; and a granddaughter, Caroline Minks.

James is survived by his final companion in life, Colette Frappier of Canada; children, Melissa Haywood (Jerry) of Hudson, Ohio, Deborah Stinson and Amanda Minks; grandchildren, Jay (Erika), Spencer and Hannah Haywood, J. D. and Chris Stinson; a great grandson, Hunter Haywood; and a great granddaughter, Lucy Stinson; his brother, Scott Lay (Bette); and two sisters, Hope Pike and Joan Grant (Gene).

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, with burial to follow in Historic Middletown Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, September 8, 2017 between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be made in the form of contributions to the WHAS Crusade for Children via the Middletown Fire Department.
