He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lynn Hulette Harding; his daughters, Melissa Harding Aultman (Keith) and Melanie Harding Bates (Garrett); his four grandchildren, Alexander Harding Aultman, Katherine Breckinridge Aultman, Victoria Bates Samples (Matt) and Micaela Lynn Bates; his sister Dr. Fann G. Hilary was born January 15, 1932, in Henderson, KY, to the late Lucy Caldwell and James Hilary Harding, Sr. He attended Western Kentucky University and earned his chemical engineering degree at the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School. He proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune in NC. He worked for DuPont and General Electric as a chemical engineer during his professional career.

Hilary was a devoted family man, demonstrating great love and amazing care for his beloved wife after her debilitating strokes in 2003. He was a quiet and gentle man of faith, who was much appreciated for his wisdom and humor. He was a wonderful father who was there for all of his daughters' and grandchildren's activities throughout the years. He was a longtime member of Beargrass Christian Church, where he cherished his dear friends in the Friendship Class. For many years, he and Lynn sponsored pilgrims on the Road to Emmaus, wanting all to know the love of God through Jesus Christ. He was also a member of the Elfun Society of GE. He was an avid tennis player and a decades-long attendee of the University of Louisville football and basketball games.
