Tell City

Hollander, James,

James Hollander, 92, passed away July 26, 2017 at the Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Indiana.

He was born December 27, 1924 in Tell City, son of the late Alvin and Gertrude (Cassidy) Hollander. He married his high school sweetheart, Lucile Wettmarshausen, on July 15, 1948.

Jim graduated from Tell City High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Radioman in the Pacific Theater. In September 1945, he was in Tokyo Bay, where the Japanese signed surrender papers, bringing the war to an end. Upon returning to Tell City in 1946, Jim worked at the Tell City Desk Company and the Tell City Chair Company, where he was Superintendent at Plant No. 2 prior to his retirement.

He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Tell City, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, horse racing and basketball, and was an avid University of Louisville Cardinals fan.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucile; two sons, David Hollander of San Francisco and Bill Hollander of Louisville; a grandson he adored, Evan Hollander of Washington, D.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his sisters, Hazel Rossman and Ruth Lasher.

Funeral Services will be at 11 am Monday, July 31 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 - 5 pm Sunday, July 30 and from 9 - 11 am Monday at the funeral home.
