Louisville - Jesse William Grider, 85, died October 4, 2018. Born December 23, 1932 in Griderville, KY to the late Hobart M. Grider and Lizzie Jessie Grider

He is predeceased by his son William Jonathan "Jon" Grider.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Mann Grider, his daughter Janet Miller (Joe) Tompkinsville, KY, daughter Carol Neal of Louisville, grandchildren Todd Starnes (Liz) of Mt Juliet,TN, and their children Gannon and Aubree,Sarah Neal of Nashville, TN and Elizabeth Neal of Louisville, and many nieces and nephews and other extended family who were very dear to him.

Jess enrolled in the National Guard in 1950 at age 17 and the next year the National Guard was activated and he served in the Korean War as a forward observer.

After serving as a police officer for the Glasgow Police Department for 4 years, he joined the US Marshal's Service. During his 19 year tenure, he rose from a Deputy Marshal to the US Marshal for the Western District of Kentucky appointed by President Gerald R. Ford. Jess was a part of the fabric of our nation as much of his duty had to do with civil rights and integration--he walked every step of the march from Selma to Montgomery.

Jess was appointed Clerk of the US District Court for the Western District of KY in 1977 and from which he retired in 1994.

Counting his army time, he had almost 40 years of federal service.

Jess was a fine man and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday and 2-3 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be private. Pearson's in charge of arrangements.
