McGrath, Lois (Troyer),

92, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at home, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 10, 1925, in Baltimore, MD to the late Howard and Marie Thompson.

Lois grew up in Louisville, where she was an accomplished swimmer in her teen years, having graduated high school from Atherton High in 1942. She and her 100-meter relay swim team traveled to Portland, OR in July 1940 and qualified for the 1940 Olympic team until World War II intervened. She met her future husband, Ted Troyer while attending the University of Louisville and during the war flew for the Civil Air Patrol.

She attended Jefferson Law School where she graduated with her husband in 1948. She practiced law with the Federal Court System for 20 years. She was the Federal Attorney assistant to Judge Charles Allen in Louisville, as well as other judges.

She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Rockport, Indiana. Lois was a founding member of the Louisville Nature Center; president of the Louisville Audubon Society; member of the Norton Hospital Women's Board and Wildwood Country Club in Louisville where she golfed frequently. She was a volunteer Pink Lady at Deaconess Gateway Hospital and was an avid University of Louisville Basketball and Football Booster.

Lois was preceded in death by her first husband, Ted E. Troyer, Sr. in 1964; second husband, Charles Gregory McGrath in 2004; daughter, Lynn Marie Troyer Caudill in 2004; brothers Howard Thompson in 1996 and Donald Thompson in 2005.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Ted E. Troyer (Dr. Brenda Troyer); grandchildren, Dr. Tami Pantano (John), Beth Koch (Geoff), Dr. Carrye Daum (Michael), Dr. Jenny Stockburger (Chris), Dr. Julie Eichner (Derek), William Caudill, Mary Troyer, and Cathy Troyer; eight great-grandchildren; niece, Beth Twyman; and sister-in-law, Betty Thompson.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September , 22, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor Thomas Duval with burial at a later date in St. Francis in the Fields Memorial Garden in Harrod's Creek, Kentucky. Friends may visit Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
