Martha "Joyce" (Guy) Watts Obituary
Martha "Joyce" Watts (nee Guy)

Louisville - Martha "Joyce" Watts (nee Guy) of Louisville passed away peacefully on June 7th in Lexington at the age of 95.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward Combs Watts Jr. and their children: Edward Combs Watts III (Sally) and Martha "Mollie" Kelley Watts.

Joyce was born on May 24, 1923 in Birmingham, AL to Henry and Dixie Guy. She had four siblings: Clifford, Eugene, Arnold, and Faye. She graduated from the University of Louisville, and worked for South Central Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator and service representative.

Joyce married Edward on June 7, 1952 in Simpsonville, KY. In addition to their birth children, Eddie and Mollie, the couple welcomed two of Joyce's brother Arnold's children into their home: Jean (Ken) & Kelley (Carol). She is also survived by her grandson Aaron Watts (Nasy), and extended family members Carolyn Dennis and John Schaaf, and their children Sam, Kevin, and Logan.

Joyce was a life-long avid reader and world traveler, with a curiosity and keen interest for learning and the arts, which she passed on to all who knew her. Joyce was a leader of her PTA, a volunteer reader for books on tape, and she started a local book group that met for over 45 years.

In keeping with Joyce's wishes, no funeral service is scheduled. Joyce was a passionate lover of flowers, birds, and nature, so in lieu of buying flowers, please plant a flower or tree.

The family would like to thank Joyce and Ed's life-long friends and neighbors, and the caregivers at Masonic Home of Shelbyville, KY and Lexington Country Place for their dedication and care.
