Nancy Ellen Cooper Obituary
Nancy Ellen Cooper

LOUISVILLE - Nancy Ellen Cooper, 71, died peacefully at her St. Matthews home early Saturday morning. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 17 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pearson's Funeral Home at 149 Breckenridge Lane in Louisville. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday in the chapel of Second Presbyterian Church at 3701 Brownsboro Road.

Nancy collected friends wherever she lived, and will be remembered for her resilience, strength of character, tolerance, kindness and glorious sense of humor. She could always be counted on to stay calm in a crisis, pitch in and help when needed. She always put everyone else's needs ahead of her own. She will be remembered especially for her dedication to her two children, Ashley and Cooper, and to her husband of 45 years, Andrew Dozier.

The fifth of seven children, Nancy was born in 1947 in Rockford, Illinois. She grew up in Houston, Texas, after her father, John H. Cooper, became headmaster at Kinkaid School, where her mother, Dorothy Rice Cooper, from whom Nancy inherited some of her strengths, resumed teaching Latin after raising her children. Nancy graduated in 1969 from Vanderbilt University, where she met Andy. They married in Nashville in 1974, and lived in California, New Jersey, and Alabama, with Nancy working much of the time in insurance while Andy was an engineer in the space program, college professor and IT consultant. Nancy and Andy retired to Andy's childhood home in St. Matthews in 2005.

In recent years, Nancy divided her time between caring for her daughter Ashley, and spending time at the family farm in Otisco, Indiana, where she could be found many weekends gardening and entertaining friends and family in their pavilion by the pond. She is survived by her husband, Andrew W. Dozier of Louisville, KY and Otisco, IN; her children Ashley Dozier (m. John Peck) and Cooper Dozier of Louisville; her sisters, Anne Cooper of Houston, TX, Susan Cooper (m. Bob Gaudet) of West Roxbury, MA and Dorothy Cooper of Otisco, IN; her brothers, Alan Cooper (m. Susan Marshall) of Blanco, TX and Larry Cooper (m. Becky Copeland) of Louisville, KY; a sister-in-law Susan Dozier (m. Joel Porter) of Centennial, CO and her many cousins and special nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hosparus Health of Louisville.
