Nancy Jo (Smith) Roseberry Obituary
ROSEBERRY, NANCY JO (SMITH), left this world very unexpectedly on Thursday, December 26th, 2013 in Englewood, FL, where she had just planted a new and wonderful life. Nancy Jo was born in Peoria, IL on January 4th, 1944 and shortly thereafter moved to the family farm in Kirkwood, IL, where she grew up with her big sister, Sue (Smith) Hawk, and her parents, Helen and Robert W. Smith. She graduated from Yorkwood high-school in 1962, where she was known as Smitty, then went on to graduate from Wheaton College in 1966. She then became an English teacher at Apollo high-school in Burlington, IA, where she met David Roseberry.

They were married on November 21st, 1970 and two years later had a son, Mark, followed by a daughter, Jessica, in 1981. After several moves, Nancy and David settled in Louisville, KY in 1978 and Nancy lived there until 2009, when she retired from her long career as an editor and moved back to Kirkwood. She enjoyed her retirement by traveling around the country and visiting her family with her adoring sidekick, Mr. Bojangles the pug, by her side.

Nancy had an unbreakable spirit. If you showed her a limit, she showed you how to surpass it. She could warm a room with her smile and her brilliant sense of humor and quick wit made her a delight to be around. She was so much fun. She was also a fighter. She would not be broken, no matter how hard the world tried. She loved her family very much; and no matter what, she always had your back.

She spoke with her daughter the day before she died and told her she planned to spend the evening sitting on the dock, watching the ships come in with her dog, Mr. Bojangles, at her side. She died a very happy and complete person, yet she still had so much more living to do. She would have celebrated her 70th birthday on January 4th. Her family will miss her terribly, as will the friends she had all over the country. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Roseberry, of Louisville, KY, her son, Mark Roseberry, along with his wife Jing and daughter Vanessa, of Bethel, CT, her loving sister Sue Hawk and her husband Bill, of Monmouth, IL, and her nephews, Curt (Leisa) Coburn, David (Cindy) Coburn, her niece, Lisa (Bill) Larkins, and their families, and Mr. Bojangles, her pug.

Nancy Jo, may you be sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the ships roll in with a nice cold drink in your hand for eternity. Your family awaits the day that they will see you again. We love you so very much and are so sad you had to go. Rest now, you beautiful silver fox.

Condolences can be sent to her daughter at 3104 Verne Court, Louisville, KY 40205; her son at 43 Kingswood Drive, Bethel, CT 06801; and her sister at 3137 Running Deer Drive, North Fort Meyers, FL 33917.

Memorials can be made to the Warren County Animal Control Shelter, or the Suncoast Humane Society. Nancy will be cremated at Englewood Community Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held from 6:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. on January 6, 2014 at the Rudyard Kipling, 422 W. Oak Street, Louisville, KY 40203. A memorial service will be held in Kirkwood, IL in the spring.
