Oberst, Norman D.,

Norman David Oberst, 77, died Friday, July 28, 2017 at Baptist Health.

Norman was born in Louisville to John and Mary Constance Oberst on May 31, 1940.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Martha Glasgow Oberst; brother John and great-grandson, Bentley Cooksey.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, daughter, Melissa (David); sons, Matt (Mindy) and Norman. Jr. ; step-sons, Mick Vest (Anita) and Tom Vest; brothers, Dr. Charles R. Oberst, Mark Oberst (Sue) and Conrad Oberst (Suzy); eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Norman graduated from Trinity High School in 1959 and was one of the first star football players in Trinity football history. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Louisville fire fighter from 1967 through 1987.

He was a lover of nature and thought nothing was more beautiful than nature's creations. Norman was a kind and caring person, a strong man with a very gentle soul.

He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.

The funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 531 East Liberty Street, with interment at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison Avenue at Barret Avenue. In Lieu of flowers,donations may go to Trinity High School Class of 1959 Scholarship Fund.
