Beck, Rodney Alan,

89, died Sunday, November 1, 2015. He was born in Louisville on August 4, 1926, and lived in Campbellsville and Princeton, KY and Terre Haute, IN. He graduated from Sr High in Owensboro KY, volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater as a member of Underwater Demolition Team 26. Rodney graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1950 and completed post-graduate studies at Northwestern University, as well as receiving a MS in Political Science from the University of Louisville. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and founded the Kappa Sigma Alumni Chapter in Louisville. He served as a director of the UK National Alumni Association, president of the Jefferson County UK Alumni, director of the Louisville Jaycees, President of the Citizens Metropolitan Planning Council, Director of Louisville Central Area, President of the Downtown Retail Merchants Association, President of the Arts Club, and owner, along with his wife Bette, of the Coffeetrees Gallery, a truly unique art and craft gallery which sold only items made in Kentucky. Prior to that venture he was vice president of the Pence Mortgage Company. He closed his working career with the Federal Government at HUD. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and formerly a member of First United Methodist Church in Charlestown, IN.

Rodney is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bette Pence Beck and their children, Rodney Jr. (Sandy), Barbara Beck Sholis (Bob) Worthington, OH, and Martha Beck Young, Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren: Sarah Sholis Sarni (Ryan), Denver, CO; Bryan Michael Young (Erin), Scottsdale, AZ; Stephan Paul Young, Tampa FL; Kevin Andrew Young, Dallas TX, Michael Peterson Beck, Louisville, KY and three great grandchildren, Adrienne Olivia, Luke Patrick, and Andrew Samuel ; sister Beverly Peck (Ron) of 29 Palms, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Funeral service 10 am Friday at Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation 3-7 Thursday at Pearson's.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to St. Paul UMC, Louisville, Charlestown First UMC, or the University of Kentucky scholarship fund of your choice.
