POLLOCK, Sue Ann Hobgood,

84, died Tuesday morning at home with her family at her side. She was born April 22, 1933 in Nebo, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Rayburn Lewis Hobgood and Annie Hope Wooton Hobgood.

Sue was a 1951 graduate of Madisonville High School, Madisonville, Kentucky, where she was a member of the concert and marching band, a class officer, a class favorite and State Secretary of the Kentucky Beta Club and participated in both the Kentucky State Speech and Music Festivals.

She was a 1955 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a BS Degree in Vocational Home Economics. She was a member, House President and Secretary of Chi Omega Sorority; Vice-President of the Student Union Board; Secretary of the YWCA; a member of Cwens (Sophomore Honor Society); Links (Junior Honor Society), and Mortar Board (Senior Women's Honor/Leadership Society). She was also a member of Kappa Delta Pi Educational Society and Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor/Leadership Society.

She received a Masters in Education Degree from Spaulding University in 1970.

On June 23, 1955 she married Air Force Lt. Richard Horace Pollock, her high school sweetheart, at the First Christian Church in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Sue taught 4th Grade for 1-1/2 years in Tullahoma, Tennessee, where Richard was stationed in the Air Force.

She later taught 1st or 2nd Grade at Crestwood Elementary School in Oldham County and retired in 1993 after 23 years of service. In 1993 she was voted by her peers as Crestwood Elementary Teacher of The Year. She gave her love of learning to over 800 students during her teaching career, including how gratifying it was to teach a young student how to read.

She was a member of Anchorage Presbyterian Church; past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Fincastle Chapter); a member of Who's Who Among America's Teachers; the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association; Jefferson County Retires Teachers Association; past President of Louisville Chi Omega Alumnae; past Secretary and Membership Director of Scottish Clan Pollock International; past member of the Louisville Younger Woman's Club and the Louisville Woman's Club; a former volunteer at the Kentucky Center for the Arts; a former Brownie Scout Leader; a former Vacation Bible School and Sunday School Teacher and a former member of Bible Study Fellowship.

She was an avid UK fan from her earliest years. In the early retirement years she and Dick made many trips to their favorite vacation place in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She enjoyed having lunch with friends and her fellow retired teachers. She also enjoyed traveling, especially the two trips they made to ancestral areas in England and Scotland. Dick had traced her Hobgood roots to the Stonehenge area in England. Reading historical fiction books and sewing were also hobbies she enjoyed.

Sue was loving, kind, and a special friend to Dick, Steve and Anne, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anyone who knew her will always remember her quiet, gentile ways and her positive outlook on life despite living in constant pain her last several years,.

She is survived by Richard, her loving husband of 62 years, a son, Dr. Steven Richard Pollock (Elizabeth) of Louisville, Kentucky, a daughter, Anne Pride Pollock Durham (Roger) of Louisville, Kentucky, 8 grandchildren: Emily Pollock Allen (Justin), Erica Pollock Beegle (Michael), Charlotte Ann Pollock, Sarah Collier Culver (Brandon), Diane Collier Dearinger (Bryan), R. Maxwell Vincenti, James Bennett Durham (Megan) and Roger Addison Durham, and six great grandchildren: Peyton Elizabeth Culver, Brody Alan Culver, Hailey Bryn Dearinger, Wyatt David Dearinger, Corey Michael Beegle. Carter William Beegle.

Visitation will be on Thursday September 7 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road in Middletown, KY.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held Friday, September 8 at 11 a.m. at Anchorage Presbyterian Church, 11403 Park Road, Anchorage, KY with Dr. Roger Durham officiating.

Prior to the service, a private family burial service will be held at Duncan Memorial Cemetery, Floydsburg, Kentucky.
