Thangam "Sam" Rangaswamy Obituary
Thangam "Sam" Rangaswamy

Louisville - Thangam "Sam" Rangaswamy, 75, loving husband of Kohi Rangaswamy, passed away quietly on June 10, 2018 after bravely fighting cancer for the last 4 years.

Sam lived a life that is only inspiring to others. He was born to Thangam and Ramakkal, a simple farmer in India, whom he greatly loved and respected. He paved the way for his family by being the first to finish high school, attain his Bachelor's degree in from PSG in Coimbatore, immigrate to the United States, and complete his Master's degree from UC Berkeley and PhD from University of Kentucky. He led further by being an entrepreneur, starting an Engineering firm - Rangaswamy and Associates, Inc. Even though he established a new life in the US, he never forgot his humble roots in India, visiting his friends and family in India at every opportunity he had.

He is the founder of the Structural Engineering Association of Kentucky and served as its President, Director and Secretary at various times. He has also served as the Kentucky Minority Business Development Council Treasurer, Secretary and Board Member. Sam was given the US Small Business Administration Person of the Year Award in 1985.

Sam gave so much to his relatives and communities in India. He helped his sister and brother start a new life in the US, just as he had done years before. He gave back to the community by building new schools, sponsoring scholarships, rebuilding his high school, and much more; all to ensure others had the same opportunities he did. He built a temple in his village so that people could gather as a community.

Sam was engrained with honesty, integrity, and passion for everything in life. He was always searching for better ways to live, share, love, help and inspire everyone around him. He was a true friend and a trusted advisor to so many people.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kohi; his son Chandran; his grandchildren Vimarthan and Ahilan; and his niece, Kalpana.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 11th, 2018 with viewing from 9 - 11 AM and eulogy at 11 - 12 PM at Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane followed by private cremation ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to GoFundMe to be used for education of under privileged children in India: https://www.gofundme.com/ and search "Sam Rangaswamy". He would love that we were carrying on his legacy through supporting his passion
