Groft, Timothy James,

37, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, September 16, 2017, surrounded by family after a year-long battle with cancer.

Tim was a Sergeant with the City of Louisville Fire Department and firefighting was not just his occupation, but his passion. He was dedicated to it and his firefighting brothers and sisters were his extended family.

Tim is survived by his son, Lincoln James Groft and Lincoln's mother, Nikki Lickteig Groft; his parents, Chris and Linda Groft; brothers, Patrick (Lisa), Nick (Nicole), Simon (Amanda) and Sam Groft; his grandmothers, Kathleen Lucas and LaVerda Boucher; four nieces and nephews; countless aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and the entire City of Louisville Fire Department.

Tim was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Maria Groft; his grandfathers, George Lucas, Harry Boucher and John Albert Groft; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Hosparus is an amazing organization and they brought Tim and his whole family great comfort at a time when it was needed most.

Memorial visitation for Tim will be at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son, 7336 Southside Dr., Louisville KY 40214 on Wednesday from 2- 8 p.m., Thursday at 9 a.m., leaving the funeral home at 11 a.m. for a memorial service at Iroquois Amphitheater, with inurnment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Tim was an avid fan of the Louisville Cardinals, and enjoyed running, hiking, bicycle riding, Nolin Lake, kayaking, softball, golfing and spending time with his main sidekick, Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in recognition of Tim's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to Hosparus.
